Biggest Four-Day Work Week in the World
2022-11-21Calls for a shqorter working week have intensified in several countries in recent years. As millions of employees switch to remote working during the pandemic - reducing burdensome commute times and costs - calls for greater flexibility will only grow louder.
Iceland conducted the largest pilot of a shortened working week between 2015 and 2019. There are 2,500 public sector workers taking part in two large trials. These trials found no corresponding decline in participants' productivity and a significant increase in employee happiness. Thirty-eight companies in the United States and Canada also experimented with a four-day work week between April and October this year.
In June this year, the UK kept up with them and actively participated in the pilot project with 70 companies and 3,300 people for six months. Employees will not be paid less during this period. In this way, the UK set the current world record for "the biggest four-day work week in the world".
