Smallest Wooden Cask of Whisky in the World

2022-06-08

The cask in which the whisky is matured is basically one of the most influential factors in the taste of a whisky. Although the duration of whisky aging is significant, the type of cask used for maturation appears to exert a more profound influence on its flavor and taste. Different casks give whisky different flavours.

Cooper King Distillery in Sutton, Woodside, UK, collaborated with cask maker Jonathan Manby on this pair of casks.

They are carefully hand-crafted from individual original English oak staff.

They are made of hand-made copper hoops and housed in oak frames. The 750-milliliter capacity casks are individually numbered and carved, and the logo of the barrel factory is printed on each base. Now they're auctioning it off. Their floor price is 350 pounds a barrel, or 2,934 yuan. Each cask contains a litre of the distillery's gold award winning whiskey for the winning bidder to fill.

The collaboration between the two masters showcases the ingenuity and craftsmanship of the cask makers, celebrates the beauty of oak and creates something eternal - a treasure passed down from generation to generation.

Jonathan Manby said: "with my years of experience and the more than 100 hours of research and development invested in this collaboration, we have created a product that is both beautiful and functional, pushing the limits of what can be achieved with oak."

Do you think mini wine casks like this are really practical?
